Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum age to volunteer?

  • We welcome volunteers ages 12 and up. Volunteers ages 12-15 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteers ages 16 and up can volunteer on their own. All volunteers regardless of age will need to complete an application, inclusive of uploading a valid Government picture ID (Driver's License/Permit or Passport).

My child is 12-15 years old so I will be volunteering with them. Do we both need to be signed up?

  • Yes! Please sign up both the accompanying adult and the child. Please ensure that you are signing up for a shift that does not have age restrictions. Individuals between ages 12- 15 are limited to the East Boca Food Center's warehouses. Address 1500 NW 1St Court, Boca Raton Fl, 33432

Why won't it let me sign up for a shift?

  • There are a couple reasons that you may not be able to sign up for a shift. Many of our opportunities have age restrictions. Any age restrictions will be noted in the description. If you are under the required age, it will not allow you to sign up. If you are under 18, please ensure that your parent/guardian has e-signed your waiver. You will not be able to sign up until the waiver is fully signed. Certain shifts have other requirements like additional training or an interview so you will not be able to sign up for those shifts without permission. Also, incomplete profiles will not be allowed to register for a shift.

Can groups volunteer? How does scheduling groups work?

  • Yes! We love group volunteers whether it is a corporate group or a student group or any other type of group! These shifts are typically on weekdays from 1-3PM. To schedule a shift, please reach out to the Volunteer Program Manager (nicole@bocahelpinghands.org) with a few date options, and she will get you on the schedule.

What should I wear to volunteer?

  • Closed toe shoes (no cros), t-shirt with sleeves (no tank or gym bra tops) and long pants are required for all of the opportunities.
    • If you are in the kitchen or helping with sandwiches, you are also required to wear a baseball cap or hairnet. We recommend you bring a hat.
    • If you are signed up for a pantry distribution shift at any of our location, please note that these shifts are outdoors in rain or shine so dress weather appropriate.

Do you provide opportunities for court-ordered service?

  • Please email the Volunteer Program Manager for more information (nicole@bocahelpinghands.org).
